How checkout works: When you subscribe, Stripe Checkout shows your subscription price and, where required, sales tax added on top based on your billing address. You approve the full total before you pay.
Launch phase: PermitArc registers for sales tax state by state as required. Texas is registered first (our business home state). Other states are added when we are legally required to collect there. Until we register in your state, checkout may show no sales tax line even if your state taxes SaaS in general.
Future renewals: If we register in your state after you subscribe, applicable sales tax may be added to future renewals. We update this page when a state moves from “may apply later” to “tax at checkout.”
Status by state
PermitArc is B2B software (SaaS). Some states tax business software subscriptions; others do not. Combined state + local rates vary by city and county.
| State | PermitArc status | Notes |
|---|
Combined rate ranges use Tax Foundation state + max local rates (July 2026). Connecticut and Maryland use typical B2B SaaS rates. Iowa B2B purchases are often exempt. Stripe calculates your exact total at checkout.
Common questions
Why isn’t tax on my checkout today?
We only collect sales tax in states where PermitArc is registered with the tax authority. During launch we register gradually. If your state is listed as “may apply on a future renewal,” tax is not collected until we complete registration there.
Will my price go up later?
Your subscription tier price (for example $39/mo Solo) stays as subscribed unless you change plans. Sales tax is separate and may appear on checkout or on a later renewal when we register in your state. Tax is a pass-through to your state — not a PermitArc price increase.
How will I know when tax starts in my state?
We update this page and may email account holders before tax applies to a renewal. At checkout, Stripe always shows the full total before payment.
What about annual billing?
Same rules: listed annual prices exclude tax unless shown at checkout. Tax may apply to the renewal charge when we are registered in your state.
